About Marquees

There are two main types of marquee:

  • Traditional

  • Aluminium Structures

Don't worry though - Crocker Bros are experts at knowing which style is best for any particular occasion.

Traditional Marquees

Traditional marquees are the standard marquee that has existed for many hundreds of years. There have been many improvements in this time. The material we use is a heavy duty PVC coated polyester rather than traditional canvasses. This has many advantages, not only does it look whiter and is considerably easier to clean, but it never needs waterproofing and so there is no leakage. It is also inherently fire retardant.

Drawing of a Traditional MarqueeTraditional marquees, as can be seen in the drawing here, have centre poles and ropes at the sides. They need a surface that can allow the pegs to be driven in (grass etc.). The pegs need to be 5' away from the side of the marquee all round so an are 10' bigger than the marquee size is required. A 60' x 40' marquee would require an area of 70' x 50'.

All the marquees are modular so can be extended in sections with a pole at the joint of each section and has no theoretical maximum length. This also applies to the internal linings we supply. We can provide traditional marquees at widths of 20', 30', 40', 50', 80' and 100'. The 80' widths and 100' widths are slightly different as they have 3 centre poles across the width.

Aluminium Structures

Aluminium structures are a comparatively new invention. Rather than having poles in the centre and ropes pulling the canvas to the side, they have an aluminum skeleton into which the covers are placed. The great advantage with this is that no centre poles are required allowing more usable space within the marquee. It also allows for a clear view down the the inside of the structure which is particularly beneficial when presentations are being made.

Aluminium Structure MarqueeThe other benefit from structures is their portability. As our structures can be secured to the ground with weights, no steel pegs are required (although they are used where possible). This allows us to erect structures on car parks etc. where pegs cannot be used. Structures are considerably more stable than traditional marquees and can withstand higher windspeeds and snow loadings.

We can supply aluminium structures in widths of 3m, 6m, 9m, 12m, 16m and 20m. The 12m, 16m, and 20m are 2.5m high at the sides and the 3m, 6m and 9m are 2.1m high at the sides.

All the structures can have internal linings and flooring as with traditional marquees. As the strength of the structure is in the aluminum frame, it is a simple matter to suspend lighting rigs, projection screens etc. from the frame making them ideal for corporate presentations. For open air music events and the like, the gable sections can be left out allowing people outside the structure to view the performers.
